Technology may be helping to shrink the world but when it comes to moving physical goods from one place to another, not all countries are equal. Internet-based services such as p4d may make it easy to send parcels around the world at discounted rates, but if those parcels are headed to destinations that do not appear on the EU countries list, it becomes more difficult to guarantee a particular delivery slot.

While packages sent to countries outside of the EU are subject to inspection by customs officers and numerous regulations about what can and can not be imported, none of these rules apply within the EU. So the biggest advantage of sending parcels to destinations that appear on the EU countries list is that it is just as easy as sending them to a destination in the UK.
This makes it easy to expand your customer base and allow people outside of the UK to take advantage of the varying exchange rate between the pound and the euro. The same advantages apply when it comes to importing items from within the EU. Depending on what types of product you sell, it may not be profitable or practical for you send or collect packages from outside the EU so it is important to know exactly which locations are part of the union.
At present, there are twenty-seven names on the EU countries list but this is expanding all the time. The most recent expansion took place in 2007 when both Bulgaria and Romania joined. Croatia is expected to join in July 2013, while Iceland, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Turkey are all official candidates for membership. Albania is also attempting to join and Bosnia and Herzegovina are expected to begin the application process for membership in the near future.
This does not mean that it is impossible to deliver parcels outside the EU, merely that if you do so, potential delays because of red tape or customs inspections have to be factored into any promised delivery time to ensure your customers are fully aware of the level of service they are likely to receive.
