Consultant-led maternity, 24/7 Childrens Ward, Special Care Baby Unit, A&E, medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, and the Critical Care Unit at the Horton General Hospital, Banbury, are all under threat of closure.
The NHS has suffered swingeing cuts to its budget in real terms over recent years.
The Oxford University Hospital Foundation Trust is not immune to these budgetary restraints.
Banbury is one of the largest towns in Oxfordshire and growing significantly. The proposal is to close yet another ward in the local hospital sending all patients for treatment at the Jr Oxford.
The current proposals for the Horton General Hopital are going over the same ground that was covered, and secured, only eight years ago. Here's a link to the report by the Independent Reconfiguration Panel that secured our services in 2008.
These cuts were referred to the Secretary of State for Health (Alan Johnson) in 2007/8, a large group of esteemed professionals from various walks of life painstakingly evaluated all of the evidence. Their judgement was crystal clear. "The IRP does not consider that (the proposals) would provide an acceptable or improved service for the people of North Oxfordshire and the surrounding area".
P4D's launched the charity initiative, Round Up Your Pound, in May 2012. In that time, we have raised £20,000 in small change for 16 different charities. P4D are proud to be supporting the Hands off our Horton campaign as part of this endeavour. A donation can be made on all orders at the checkout stage.
