    About Brunei

Brunei is one of the smallest countries in the world, but one of the most wealthy because of its oil fields. Bandar Seri Begawan, or BSB, is the capital of Brunei. There are many natural forests in tact across Brunei, since most of the utilised resources have been underground. Ulu Temburong National Park is situated in a large rainforest. Rich with flora and fauna it is a popular tourist visiting spot. It boasts one of the longest canopy walks through the rainforest that exists in the world and at certain times, access to the Sungai Apan waterfall. You need a visa to visit this reserve, or you can contact the forestry department to attempt an independent visit. Taman Peranginan Tasek is a more everyday picnic area with waterfalls, swimming and walks. Tasek Merimbun is a heritage park with the country's largest lake. From here you can take a boat out to a couple of smaller islands.

Brunei was ruled by the British right up until 1984 when it won independence. The country is only small, with a population of less than 400,000. English is still widely used, especially for business, but Malay is the official language of Brunei. The country is rich in oil with crude oil and natural gases being the largest exports. If you're looking for culture, you could visit the Ratna Dina Arif Gallery, which houses paintings by local artists. The Oil and Gas Gallery explains the history and production of oil and gases that are used to supply other nations. The Brunei Traditional Culture Gallery is just what the title suggests, a great place to visit if you want to know more about the country and the history of its inhabitants.
