Local businessman scoops national award

Shutford resident is officially recognised for the impressive strides he has made in business

A businessman from Banbury is celebrating after winning a high-profile national award that recognises the successes of the UK’s best entrepreneurs and the companies they run.

Stephen Abel is the driving force behind two fast-growing businesses that are based on North Bar Street in the Oxfordshire town and he has just been confirmed as one of the winners of the prestigious ‘Young Guns 2008’ awards that are judged by Growing Business Magazine – the UK’s most popular magazine for entrepreneurs.

The 33-year-old’s recognition comes on the back of the success recorded by his P4D (Parcels 4 Delivery) and Parcel Shipping Manager businesses. Thanks to the time saving software solutions that Abel has developed, his www.p4d.co.uk online business is able to arrange and execute 100,000 worldwide parcel deliveries every month.

Meanwhile, Parcel Shipping Manager is a relatively new software-led business that eliminates the need for other companies to waste hours manually inputting their shipping information. The Parcel Shipping Manager software automatically pulls the data from the company’s shopping cart or an eBay account and sends it directly to the nominated carrier.

Abel took his first steps in the logistics sector at the beginning of 2006 but his two businesses have recorded substantial growth in the intervening years and their projected turnover for 2008 stands at £1.7 million.

During a stringent judging process, the Young Guns 2008 panel was impressed with Abel’s business acumen and his ability as an entrepreneur to take advantage of a gap in the parcel delivery market. Growing Business Magazine editor, James Hurley, said: “We were impressed with Stephen’s ability to differentiate his offering by developing ground-breaking technology, and the fact that he’s now set up PSM as a complementary business is further evidence of his entrepreneurial credentials.”

Abel, meanwhile, is thrilled that his business achievements have been recognised with such a prestigious award. He said: “By scooping a Young Guns 2008 award, I am following in the footsteps of some pretty well known entrepreneurs who have gone on to even greater things – one of whom recently appeared on the Channel 4 television programme, Secret Millionaire.

“This award is very highly regarded in the business world and it means that everything I go on to achieve in my business career will be sprinkled with gold dust. I am extremely proud to have built two successful businesses in a town like Banbury and if my national recognition helps to put the town on the map and I can help the local economy by providing even more jobs in the future, I will be very proud.”
